Over 35 years of proven fire and life safety engineering, building code and risk management experience locally and globally helps us effectively and efficiently solve your fire/life safety challenges.

Extensive specialized experience in addressing fire and risk challenges associated with protecting our built environment including cultural heritage/historic structures, national monuments, museums, libraries, residential, assembly, commercial and infrastructure projects.

Our work is with both public and private sector clients. We are intimately involved with small and large scale projects. In addition to our project work, we are dedicated to education and capacity building to further safety across the fire engineering, built environment and cultural heritage professions.  Serving on committees, writing papers and guides, presenting at conferences, teaching, building capacity, and proactively advancing the use and acceptance of performance based design and disaster management planning, to bring the value and benefits of these to our clients and their projects wherever they may be in the World.

Christopher Marrion is the Founder of Marrion Fire & Risk Consulting.  Chris is a Fire/Disaster Risk Management Consultant focusing on protecting our cultural/historic structures and natural sites from fire.  He is a Special Expert for the National Fire Protection Association, a National Fire Heritage Center Director, a Society of Fire Protection Engineers Fellow, a Director of the NY Metro Chapter of SFPE, past Chairperson of the SFPE Design Basis Fires Committee, and has an MSc in Fire Engineering. 

His primary passion is protecting our cultural heritage from natural and man-made disasters and climate change through a sustainable, practical, cost-effective, integrated, and risk-informed approach, including developing awareness/capacity; incorporating traditional/indigenous knowledge, people, resources; and developing codes and informative/practical guides to address fire and other hazards.  

Chris has been intimately involved with fire/disaster risk management globally for over 35 years.  He has worked with numerous international organizations including UNESCO, ICCROM, UNDRR/UNISDR, ICOMOS, NTHP, APTI, the World Monuments Fund and numerous public and private entities. His work includes fire/disaster risk management planning; development of codes, standards, guidelines; emergency response planning; hazard/risk assessments, performance based design; training/capacity building; fire protection system evaluation; code analysis; fire/egress modeling; fire investigations/litigation. He has published numerous articles and presented technical papers at conferences globally regarding these.

Chris is actively participates on several fire and cultural heritage technical committees, including currently Chairperson of ICOMOS-ICORP. He served on the FEMA’s BPAT Team regarding World Trade Center 9/11 investigation, several FDNY/NYC-DOB committees rewriting the NYC Building Code (2008, 2014, 2018, 2021 editions), and co-authored both editions of the SFPE Guide to Performance-Based Fire Protection Analysis and Design of Buildings, and the Extreme Event Mitigation in Buildings guides.

Excelsior Roma

Rising regally at the top of the Via Venato and recently added to Cond Nast Traveler’s Gold List, the Excelsior Roma underwent renovations to restore the grand luxury of this Historic Hotel.

Danieli Hotel, Venice, Italy

At the end of the 14th century, the noble Venetian family of the Dandolos built a palace on the Grand Canal, which is now the Danieli Hotel. According to historical records, this building was one of the most richly decorated buildings in Venice, where there were always social events

Tweed Courthouse

The Old New York County Courthouse in New York City, more commonly known as the Tweed Courthouse, was built in the mid-1800s. It is a New York City landmark as well as a National Historic Landmark.

Park Avenue Armory

The Armory was built by the first volunteer militia to respond to President Lincoln's call for troops in 1861. The Armory was built not only as a military facility but also as a social club. Some of the most prominent designers of the time were involved with the design of the Reception rooms on the first floor and the Company Rooms on the second floor, including Louis Comfort Tiffany and Stanford White.

Amarbayasgalant Monastery – Mongolia

Amarbayasgalant Monastery was built 300 years ago and comprises the remaining 28 of the 40 original Temples. Amarbayasgalant is one of the oldest remaining Buddhist Monasteries in Mongolia and the only structure to be on the World Heritage List's Tentative List. This Buddhist Monastery represents one of Mongolia's National Treasures.

Excelsior Florence Hotel

On Conda Nasta's list of the top 75 hotels in Europe, the Excelsior Florence is located in Piazza Ognissanti, neighbouring the famous Ponte Vecchio, Uffizi Gallery and Pitti Palace in downtown Florence. The Excelsior Florence is one of the great Historic Hotels of the World.

WTC Path Terminal

The World Trade Center PATH Terminal provides access to the PATH trains connecting New York and New Jersey. The WTC PATH project is the replacement for the previous WTC PATH Terminal that was lost on September 11th.

St Patrick’s Cathedral

Statue of Liberty

Dedicated in 1886 and designated a National Monument in 1924, the Statue of Liberty stands at the entrance to the gateway to the United States. In order to further understand evacuation times from not only the statue but also from the entire Island, detailed evacuation studies were undertaken. These looked at numerous scenarios, occupant characteristics and egress configurations to obtain further insight to assist the client in making further risk-informed decisions regarding the protection of the Statue.
